6 dental hygiene tips to keep your mouth healthy.

  1. Brush Your Teeth At Least Twice A Day. Get rid of food particles on your teeth. Carefully brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before going to bed. Spend at least two minutes covering every area. Use a timer or play your favorite song while brushing. Use short circular movements when brushing the back of your teeth where plaque and tartar often accumulate.
  2. Don’t forget to clean your tongue. Use a soft bristle toothbrush to clean your tongue to eliminate harmful bacteria that cause bad breath and other dental hygiene issues. Stick your tongue out and start with the back and move forward. Brush lightly, spit and rinse your mouth with water. You can also use a tongue scraper for a more thorough cleaning.
  3. Use a fluoride Toothpaste. When shopping for a toothpaste, choose one that contains fluoride to help slow down enamel erosion and regenerate minerals lost in your teeth. Fluoride helps reinforce vulnerable areas in your teeth and helps prevent cavities. Always follow your dentist’s recommendations and supervise children when they are brushing. Show them the correct amount of toothpaste to put on their brush.
  4. Use Dental Floss On Your Teeth And Gums. Only brushing is not sufficient in protecting yourself against gum disease. Dental floss helps maintain your gums healthy. Unhealthy gums bleed and can lead to tooth loss. The regular use of dental floss prevents the accumulation of plaque and tartar on your gums, removes food particles stuck in between your teeth and reduces the risks of developing gum disease.
  5. Increase The Amount Of Water You Drink.  Drinks like black tea, coffee and fruit juices transform into acid that attacks tooth enamel. Water is the best drink for your teeth and to keep your body hydrated. Water does not leave residue, improves saliva flow, eliminated food particles and prevents bad breath. Make a habit of drinking water after every meal. Encourage your kids to drink more water by setting an example.
